Garcia, last year's runner-up in Monterrey, overcame fellow Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier 7-5 6-2.

The fifth seed was convincing despite being broken twice in the first set, closing out victory in almost 77 minutes.

Wozniacki, the second seed, was in the same half as Garcia but bowed out with a 7-5 6-4 loss to Brit Heather Watson.

Watson managed three breaks of serve in an upset win against the Dane, who has failed to go beyond the quarter-finals at any tournament this year.

Another Brit, Johanna Konta, was eliminated after a surprise 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 6-1 loss to Belgian Kirsten Flipkens.

The fourth-seeded Konta appeared to have turned the match around, only to win just 12 points in the final set.

Flipkens will face Anett Kontaveit after the 20-year-old Estonian brushed past American Nicole Gibbs 6-1 6-4.
