'Response to the attack was uncoordinated' - Kenyan Interior Minister

Reports have emerged that the Kenyan authorities reportedly ignored security intelligence warnings of a possible attack.

This was made known by Kenya's interior minister, Joseph Nkarissery who said  security officers ignored intelligence reports prior to the attack on Garissa University College.

BBC reports that prior to the attacks, universities had posted memos warning students of possible violence and the principal of Garissa University College is reported to have requested additional security at the campus, in vain.

Nkarissery who is in charge of security, also admitted that the response to the attack was poorly co-ordinated adding that the structural design of the campus had also hampered the rescue mission as the accommodation hostels were "like cells as the windows had grills".

It would be recalled that Islamist militant group, al-Shabab attacked the Garissa University earlier this month killing 148 people during the day-long siege.

There has been much public criticism over the alleged security failings.
