Dreams FC stunned Liberty Professionals at the Carl Reindolf Park on Sunday when the two sides met on Match Week 19 of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Veteran striker Eric Gawu outpaced Maxwell Mensah to a Godfred Asante's through ball and beat goalkeeper, Stephen Kweku before placing the ball into an empty net to open the scoring, and that was the only goal of the game.
Both teams had contrasting results in the previous games prior to this fixture; Liberty drew at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium against New Edubiase whilst Dreams FC succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the Tarkwa T & A park against Medeama SC.
With the latter losing away from home on week 18, they began on the front foot to redeem themselves, not only for the previous, but the reverse fixture which ended in favour of the ended in a stalemate.
Early chances were created by returnee Aaron Amoah and Maxwell Arthur, but Eric Gawu and Sarpong Michael attempts at the end of the opportunities were harmless. However, when Liberty got their grips on the ball and attacked with Latif Blessing, he found Felix Addo who powered in a ferocious shot, but Philemon McCarthy grabbed with aplomb.
Several other chances followed, but luck eluded George Lamptey's men as they failed to find the breakthrough, credit however, must be given to Philemon McCarthy.
At the other end, Dreams had two quick chances, but Stephen Kweku parried the shot from raced out his line to win the ball before Abdul Bashir, who was pushed upfield today could cause any havoc, and the first half ended with neither side finding the back of the net.
Dreams came out of their blocks in the second an tormented Liberty. Their early dominance paid dividends as they forced Emmanuel Antwi into a challenge that forced referee Ali Alhassan to give him his marching orders.
With a man advantage they continued to dictate the pace of the game with the goal with Aaron Amoah being a nemesis every time had the ball. Liberty adopted the strategy of keeping the ball, but their approach failed as Godfred Asante pounced on blunder and sent Eric Gawu through.
The former Hearts man beat the on rushing Stephen Kweku who came out to save the blushes of his defenders, and sent the ball into an empty net with eight minutes after an hour into the game.
The Scientific Soccer lads huffed and puffed, but Dreams held on to record their fourth victory away from home this season whilst Liberty suffered their third defeat at home.
