Chief of Staff warns ex-ministers to return state vehicles

Ex-ministers who served under former president John Mahama have been warned to return state vehicles in their possession which they have not lawfully acquired, a statement from the Chief of Staff Freda Osei-Opare has said.

It follows chaotic seizures of vehicles by persons acting on behalf of the government.

She said her decision was based on information her office received about various state assets, including landed properties and vehicles, which are yet to be handed over to the government.

The task force is composed of officials from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Revenue Authority (Customs Division), the Bureau of National Investigations, the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority and the Office of the President.

“Persons with state properties unlawfully in their possession should endeavour to contact the task force and make arrangements to surrender same with immediate effect,” the statement said.

It also encouraged the public to volunteer information on properties “believed” to belong to the state to the task force at the CID headquarters.

The formation of the task force comes on the heels of the seizures of five vehicles belonging to the National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams and a saloon car belonging to Afriyie Ankrah, a former minister of state.
