Rule The World has been retired just a month after winning the Grand National at Aintree.

The nine-year-old outsider sprung a surprise to win the most famous steeplechase in the world under teenage jockey David Mullins at Aintree.

Owner Michael O'Leary revealed after the famous victory that Rule The World's career may be brought to an end and the Gigginstown House Stud confirmed on Tuesday that the Michael 'Mouse' Morris-trained stayer ran his final race at Punchestown on April 26.
Gigginstown racing manager Eddie O'Leary said: "He's perfectly sound.
"He'd have a lot more weight if he went back to Aintree and, because of his old pelvic injuries, we weren't keen on doing that. He'll have a happy retirement."
