Hamilton keeps Bahrain GP pole despite pit lane reverse

Stewards summoned Lewis Hamilton for reversing in the pit lane after Bahrain GP qualifying, but the world champion will remain on pole.

Lewis Hamilton will remain on pole position for the Bahrain Grand Prix, after receiving a reprimand for reversing in the pit lane following qualifying.

Reigning Formula One world champion Hamilton produced a stunning lap - the fastest recorded in Sakhir - to pip Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg to top spot in Q3 on Saturday.

The joyous Briton hailed his "sexy lap" over the team radio, but faced potential disappointment after attracting the attention of stewards at the end of the session.

FIA regulations state: "At no time may a car be reversed in the pit lane under its own power".

However, Hamilton escaped with a warning, with stewards concluding "no clear instruction was given to the driver on where he should park the car after qualifying".

Hamilton - the winner in Bahrain for the past two years - also started on pole at the season-opening Australian GP, only to suffer a poor start and ultimately finish second behind Rosberg.
