New UFC champions gets huge welcome at home
After beating favouites, Ronda Rousey on Sunday, November 15 to win the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship, Holly Holm was welcomed back home by an estimated 20,000 adoring fans.
Holly Holm was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States, and grew up in nearby Bosque Farms.
After her famous victory over Rousey last month in Australia, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez declared December 6 ‘Holly Holm Day’.
“My fans started here, my whole career started here,” Holm said through tears.
“It wasn't just my team that helped me believe in myself but it was the support of Albuquerque and I just thank you so much.' The crowd cheered and chanted her name, of course.
“Thank you so much for being here, and not just today but always, and I'm not done yet.”
