Domino's to test a pizza delivery robot

This scenario is not from science fiction, but the DRU (Domino's Robotic Unit), designed by Domino's, the famous pizza delivery chain.
A video posted on YouTube shows the phases of the robot's development and from its appearance as miniature tank, it evoked the feeling of a friendly delivery man.
With the help of Australian company, Marathon Robotics, the creators developed a dozen concepts before arriving at the final design, a rather friendly and nice looking one with its two headlights that resemble eyes.
According to AFP, the robot is little less than a meter tall and has a compartment that can hold up to 10 pizzas. The compartment is locked with a code that customers must enter to access food.
With four wheels, the battery-operated DRU, can make deliveries within a radius of up to 20 km. Automatically, it can avoid obstacles with its sensors and has an inbuilt GPS system.
This is not the first time the idea of a delivery robot has been played with.
At the Mobile World Congress , Starship Technologies has demonstrated a small device capable of carrying a dozen kilograms of goods with an open system similar to the DRU.
Domino's robot will soon be tested in New Zealand following the same regulations as driverless vehicles.
