In a statement made available to Techworm, the Minister for Communications and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad said that “The government has not decided to get servers of popular social networking sites, like hike, Facebook, Twitter etc established within the country.”

He also added that allowing the social media companies like Facebook and Twitter to bring their servers into the country, might pose a serious security risk.

Stressing that the security outfits in India go through a lot of difficulty to process the encrypted data provided by most tracking and surveillance agencies.

He also said that the government has asked telecom and internet service providers to present  legal interceptions and monitoring infrastructure to the security agencies for various social media services like WhatsApp, Viber, WeChat and Skype.
