The eight-year-old gelding became the first novice for 41 years to win the Gold Cup back in March, but missed the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury last month after suffering an injury during a winning return at Sandown.

Trainer Mark Bradstock's wife, Sara, said Coneygree may have to wait until next season for his next race.

She is quoted by the Racing Post as saying: "He's definitely going to be back [racing], we know [the injury's] not career-threatening.

"It could be season-threatening, but nothing is set in stone."
