Mark Waugh believes Usman Khawaja must be recalled to the Australia for the second Test against West Indies at the expense of either Joe Burns or Shaun Marsh.

Khawaja suffered a hamstring injury during the second Test against New Zealand after marking his recall by scoring two centuries against the Black Caps.

Marsh replaced Khawaja and made a sublime 182 " his highest international score " as Australia thrashed the Windies by an innings and 212 runs in Hobart last week.

But Khawaja is poised to make his comeback for the Sydney Sixers against the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash on Sunday and selector Waugh insists he cannot be overlooked, with opener Burns and Marsh the men under threat.

Waugh said on Fox Sport"s Inside Cricket program: "If Usman is fit, assuming he is, he's got to come back in,

"That's not nailed down, but he has two hundreds in his last two Test matches, so you'd imagine he comes back in.

"So it"s probably a shootout between Joe Burns and Shaun Marsh,

"Someone will be very unlucky, but it"s a good position to be in, we"ve got lots of good players there now scoring runs.

"It's going to be tough on one of those guys."

The second Test in the three-match series starts at the MCG on December 26.
