Jack Miller out of Austrian GP after warm-up crash

Jack Miller will miss the Austrian Grand Prix after sustaining a fractured vertebra and wrist in a crash during Sunday's MotoGP warm-up.

Marc VDS Racing Team rider Miller won the Dutch TT just two events ago and is 13th in the riders' standings after a run of three top-10 finishes on the spin.

Miller had qualified third from last for Sunday's showpiece at the Red Bull Ring, but his attempts to find speed ahead of the race have cost him his place.

After leaving the track at turn eight, Miller was taken to hospitalĀ for precautionary checks and was forced to miss the race, despite his desire to take part.

"No Austrian GP for Jack Miller, after being diagnosed with hairline fractures to T6 vertebra and right wrist," the Australian's team posted on Twitter.

"A further medical assessment with be made on Wednesday, after which a decision will be made about his participation at Brno.

"Obviously, as he's as tough as nails, Jack wanted to race today, but accepted the decision of the circuit medical team."
