It was really just a matter of time, but ageless wonder Jaromir Jagr continued his ascent on the NHL's all-time scoring list by surpassing Gordie Howe for third in career points.

With an assist on??Aleksander Barkov's??first-period goal against the Boston Bruins - the??1,613th game of Jagr's career - the Florida Panthers wing notched career point number 1,851.

Jagr nearly scored, but his shot??was turned aside??by Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask and Barkov cashed in on the rebound.

Jagr, 44,??now trails Mark Messier (1,887) by 36 points for second all time.

In his 21st season, he would need to play at least another 10 years to catch number one on the list, Wayne Gretzky, who scored a seemingly??insurmountable??2,857 points in his career.

Last month, Jagr??passed Brett Hull for third place in goals and now has 743.

Howe, who is second in goals, still holds the advantage??over Jagr there with 801.
