FIFA dismisses Ghanaian referee's appeal against life ban

The world football governing body has withheld its earlier decision to ban referee J.O Lamptey from officiating for the rest of his life.

Joseph Lampteys appeal against FIFAs decision to hand him a life time ban has been dismissed by the Appeals Committee of the world football governing body.

The FIFA referee was slapped with a life time ban for awarding a dubious penalty in favour of South Africa in a FIFA World Cup qualifying game against Senegal in November, 2016.

Joseph Lamptey who wanted to exonerate himself of wrong doing filed an appeal against the decision of the Disciplinary Committee of FIFA, but it has been squashed.

A statement released by FIFA on their official website read:

'The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided to ban the Ghanaian match official Joseph Odartei Lamptey from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at national and international level for life.

The official was found guilty of breaching art. 69 par. 1 (unlawfully influencing match results) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifying match between South Africa and Senegal on 12 November 2016.'
