Oscar Pistorius will discover if he faces a return to jail on Thursday when South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal rules on whether he should receive a murder conviction for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius shot his then-girlfriend through a locked bathroom door on Valentine's Day 2013, but said he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder and was duly convicted of culpable homicide.

The Paralympic gold medalist was released on house arrest this October, having served just a fifth of his five-year prison sentence.

However, at a hearing last month, prosecutors argued Pistorius should have been convicted of murder. They want his prison term increased to a minimum of 15 years.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Appeal said: "The judgment will be delivered at 09:45 [local time] on 3 December 2015."
