This story, as reported in the daily, Superdeporte, talks of the possibility of the Ghanaian leaving the Canary Island club for free, owing to a clause in his contract with them. The player initially signed for a year, with another optional one, and it is that clause that Valencia want to take advantage of in order to sign him.

Boateng is much to the liking of the club’s sporting directorate and could cover several positions in the attack. He has scored nine times in twenty-six appearances, and has played in different positions in Quique Setién’s front line this season.

The UD Las Palmas president, Miguel Ángel Ramírez, explained to Radio Nacional reporters how the clause that could lead to the player leaving the island works:

“In April we triggered the option to renew Boateng’s contract. If Kevin comes to me in the summer and tells me there is a team that wants him and is offering a better deal, then I have to let him go.

"It is because I contacted him and asked him to come, on a free. There is nothing we can do. He came for a year and we asked him to stay for another. He accepted, but if he is unsettled…

"He may stay on next year, or not. Things are pretty clear.”
