3,912 seats at the Baba Yara Sports stadium have been destroyed and funds haven’t been made available for repair works to be carried out to put the stadium in good shape.
The managers of the stadium facility have therefore appealed to the government of Ghana to make funds available for maintenance at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Mr. Kofi Addae, the Principal facility manager of the National Sports Authority has poured out his frustration over the fast deterioration of the facility.
According to him the situation at the stadium is due to suspension of government subvention for the past three years.
It is more alarming especially as Ghana prepare to host the 2019 African Women’s Championship.
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which has a capacity of 40, 528 was built in the early 1960’s and was rehabilitated in the 1970’s by the I.K Acheampong government.
The last time the stadium saw a major facelift was between 2006-2008 when it was refurbished for the hosting of the 2008 African Cup of Nations.
