Leeds Rhinos prop Mitch Garbutt has been given a two-match ban for punching North Queensland Cowboys' James Tamou in the World Club Challenge at Headingley on Sunday.

Garbutt was sent off nine minutes from time as the injury-hit Super League champions were emphatically beaten 38-4 in their own backyard.

The 26-year-old Australian entered an early guilty plea and will miss Saturday's trip to face Catalans Dragons as well as the home clash with Huddersfield Giants six days later.

Tamou has not been charged for a slap on Keith Galloway, which prompted Garbutt to land a retaliatory punch on the Cowboys prop.

Cowboys co-captain Matt Scott accused Garbutt of being "weak" by landing what he saw as a "cheap shot" on Tamou.
