The Lightning announced on Saturday that Stamkos, 26, will undergo surgery on Monday to treat a type of Vascular Thoracic Outlet Syndrome near his right collarbone.

"Obviously this situation is extremely disappointing because I wanted to help my team clinch a play-off spot and prepare for the start of the postseason," said Stamkos, who has 36 goals and 64 points in 77 games this season.

"During my recovery I will do all I can to help my teammates, and I hope to rejoin them soon in the Stanley Cup play-offs."

The Lightning (45-28-5) are second in the Atlantic Division, just two points behind division leaders the Florida Panthers with four games remaining in the regular season.
