Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin suffers broken hand

Los Angeles Clippers have launched an investigation after Blake Griffin broke his hand when throwing a punch.

The Clippers forward will be out for four to six weeks after suffering a spiral fracture on the fourth metacarpal in his right hand, the NBA team announced on Tuesday.

According to numerous reports, Griffin suffered the injury after hitting team equipment manager Matias Testi in an altercation that began inside a Toronto restaurant on Saturday.

The Clippers did not directly address the circumstances of the injury, but indicated Griffin will face disciplinary action.

"This conduct has no place in our organization and this incident does not represent who we are as a team," said a joint statement released by Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and president of basketball operations and head Coach Doc Rivers.

"We are conducting a full investigation with assistance from the NBA. At the conclusion of the investigation, appropriate action will be taken."

Griffin, who has not played since December 26 after tearing a quadriceps muscle, underwent X-rays on Monday and was operated on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old has averaged 23.2 points and 8.7 rebounds in 30 games this season.
