Traders still sell close to construction site despite death of colleague

Some of the traders who spoke to Pulse News said their lives may be in danger selling close to the construction site but they have to make ends meets.

The death of a 33 year old tomato seller at the Makola market in Accra was not enough to scare off traders who still sell close to the construction site where their colleague died.

“yes we know our lives are at stake but what can we do, we can’t stay at home together with our husbands and children just because this happened, we only have to be careful and we praying to God to spare us accidents like this”  said Grace a tomato seller.

Few weeks back at the same spot, Akweley a single parent of two  met her untimely death when a heavy metal fell from the building crushing her to death. She was buried on Friday June 3, 2016 at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

The AMA boss says he ordered for work to begin on Friday June 03,2016.

"I went by and inspected the situation and I have now declared it open"

He said  the traders who are still selling close to the site "can always go into the market,they have been told not to sell close to the construction site.

"You can see they have raised a safety bar around the building,so if anything should fall,I doubt it will fall on them"
