Manchester City stormed into a 4-0 lead over Chelsea after just 25 minutes to head back towards the top of the Premier League ahead of Liverpool on goal difference on Sunday.

The first-half humiliation could have been even worse for Chelsea had Sergio Aguero not uncharacteristically passed up a glorious chance to double City's lead after Raheem Sterling fired home a fourth-minute opener.

Aguero made amends in stunning fashion by firing into the top corner from 25 yards before pouncing on a slack header by Ross Barkley to make it 3-0.

A 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth in their last away game was Chelsea's heaviest league defeat since 1996.

But Maurizio Sarri's men had levelled that mark midway through the first-half when Ilkay Gundogan's shot from the edge of the box had too much power for Kepa Arrizabalaga.
