Married man caught redhanded with gay partner in Sabon Zongo

An unexpected drama unfolded at Sabon Zongo, a suburb of Accra last week when a 38-year old married man with four children was caught red-handed romancing an alleged gay partner in his matrimonial home.

Unbelieving neighbours claim that one Shafiq Ibrahim who lives in the community with his wife and kids, was caught with a male friend, Abubakar Sadick fondling each other when his family had travelled to visit his father's for a few days.

According to eyewitnesses, a teenage son of one of Shafiq's neighbours by name Ali was in the house when he heard strange noises coming from the room which was not locked. As he often goes in to watch television with Shafiq's children, Ali opened the door only to meet the horror of two grown men seriously kissing and fondling each other. He unconsciously screamed which attracted the attention of other neighbours who all rushed in to see the unbelievable sight.

The angry neighbours started beating up the two men, amid screams of abomination as the crowd increased. Homosexuality is strictly abhorred in their Muslim dominated community, to the extent people started shouting for the two supposed culprits to be burnt alive to serve as deterrent to others.

In the heat of the moment, Shafiq and the alleged gay partner, Abubakar managed to escape through the window and bolted. People in Abubakar's own house confirmed that he and Shafiq rushed into the house to pack some few clothes, then rushed out again before the angry crowd could get there.

They have not been seen since, not even Shafiq's wife who also returned to the marital home immediately she heard the news. She was said to have vehemently described her disappointment in the husband for bringing shame to her and confirming what people used to suspect him of even before they got married in 2012.

Indeed, neighbourhood rumours in Sabon Zongo indicate that Shafiq was forced to marry by his own parents who even looked for the woman for him because of the same suspicion due to rumours about their son since his secondary school days at Hafisatu Fashion School in Accra and even after, since he always was in company of only male friends.

He always denied it however until the latest situation when he was caught red-handed in his own marital home. The angry neighbours have been threatening the wife and parents to produce him so they can vent their spleen. Many believe the two alleged gay lovers have run away to somewhere around Tamale in the North.
