Former England international Mathers announced his retirement in September after being handed a suspension having been found guilty of providing inside information on former team London Broncos' Challenge Cup clash with Leigh last March, though he maintained his innocence.

The 32-year-old, whose ban expired on Thursday, will not be included in the squad for Sunday's friendly against Castleford Tigers but is eager to return to playing.

"I'm really looking forward to the challenge. I think my experience will be key to the role," he told the Bulls' official website.

"The experience is something that you earn over time and I'm really looking to getting going with the boys.

"Jimmy [coach James Lowes] sees me as bringing a very specific set of specialist skills to the side in terms of organising the defensive line.

"I will also be complimenting the squad as it looks to achieve its goals."
