Mauresmo hails Murray after Wimbledon win
Amelie Mauresmo reached out to Andy Murray to congratulate him on his Wimbledon victory and believes his triumph at SW19 was just reward for the work he puts in off the court.
Frenchwoman Mauresmo was hired as Murray's coach in June 2014 before they ended their professional relationship ahead of this year's French Open.
Murray subsequently reached the final of Roland Garros before reuniting with former coach Ivan Lendl in the build-up to Wimbledon, and he won his third major title under the Czech's guidance by beating Milos Raonic in last weekend's final at the All England Club.
And Mauresmo expressed her delight at Murray's latest achievement, which she says was achieved thanks to the three-time grand slam winner putting in the hard yards in practice.
"I congratulated him - he was so happy and sharing with me what happened," Mauresmo told Omnisport. "He deserves it so much.
"Seeing from very close how hard he's working, the amount of time and energy and sacrifice he puts into his job, or achieving his dreams, is very impressive and I was very lucky to be able to witness that."
Murray will now focus his attention on retaining his Olympic title at the Rio Games next month, before the US Open gets under way later in August.
