The Ottawa Senators were also vying for Boudreau and met with him on Friday, but were unable to match the Wild's offer.

John Torchetti was the Wild's interim coach after Mike Yeo was fired when Minnesota lost 13 of their last 14 games midway through the season.

After five seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, Boudreau was fired in April after the team failed to advance past the first round of the play-offs.

He spent the previous four-plus seasons as the coach of the Washington Capitals.

In those nine seasons, Boudreau amassed a 409-192-80 record, leading active coaches in win percentage.

Boudreau is 41-39 in eight trips to the Stanley Cup play-offs and is the seventh head coach in NHL history to win 200-plus games with multiple teams.
