First exhibition game to hold in Africa

The National Basketball Association have announced that they will be holding their first exhibition game in Africa.

The NBA on Wednesday, April 29 announced that Miami Heat player Luol Deng and Los Angeles Clippers' star Chris Paul will lead a host of other basketballers to  play in the NBA exhibition game in South Africa on Saturday, August 1.

The NBA in a statement announced that the game will be held at the Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg.

Luol Deng who was born in South Sudan will captain the Team Africa while Chris Paul will lead Team World in the game which will be aired live in South Africa and other African countrie.

More details of the full squads will be revealed later.

The NBA has visited South Africa in the past to hold hold training and development camps and charity events but this will be the first exhibition game.

Hall of Famer and two-time NBA champion Hakeem Olajuwon who is from Nigeria and an NBA Africa ambassador took to Twitter to express his delight at being part of the exhibition game.

"I'm blessed and honored to be apart of the first ever @NBA_Africa Game #NBAAfricaGame," the former Houston Rockets player tweeted.
