The resulting quake triggered an avalanche in Mount Everest, killing 19 people in total.

Sherpa porters based at the mountain also told BBC reporters that most climbers have now left the Base Camp and abandoned their expeditions.

While rescue efforts are still on in Nepal and the Nepalese government tries everything in its power to restore activity to Mount Everest which is a huge cash cow for the country (permit fees to climb the mountain costs as much as $70,000 - about N13.9 million) per climber, it is still largely unsafe.
