The win was Neureuther's 12th at the World Cup at the same venue his father, Christian, finished on the podium over 40 years ago.

"It is always nice to be successful but it's also nice that [this success] came where my father had success. That's part of our family history," the German said after the win.

"I knew that I just have to go full throttle. The conditions have not improved, it has started to rain and my glasses fogged."

The win was Neureuther's 40th podium finish of his career after he edged Swede Andre Myhrer.

Myhrer was quicker on the first run, finishing in 53.63 seconds to better Neureuther's effort of 53.97, but the German would not be denied as he finished the second run with 56.96 after Myhrer posted a time of 57.35.
