The Japanese sixth seed was in fine form on his way to a 6-3 7-5 victory over Kyrgios in their semi-final at the ATP 1000 event on Friday.

Nishikori hit 19 winners and just 12 unforced errors, giving the Australian few chances from the outset.

With his win, Nishikori moved into just his second ATP 1000 final – where he will face Novak Djokovic – and first since 2014.

Kyrgios' run, which saw him reach the last four without dropping a set, will see him move into the world's top 20.

Nishikori put the 20-year-old on the back foot from the outset to cruise through the opening set.

He broke early in the second, only to hand it back with a double fault after a third game that lasted almost eight minutes.

Kyrgios started to get himself going emotionally, but he was struggling to trouble Nishikori on serve.

And Nishikori broke at the perfect time, a volley winner seeing him close out his victory in the 12th game.
