NRL co-operating in match-fixing investigation

The NRL said it is treating allegations of match-fixing as a "serious matter" as New South Wales Police investigate matches.

Australia's national rugby league competition was rocked by claims of match-fixing on Thursday after NSW state police confirmed the organised crime squad was investigating the matter.

And the NRL released a statement shortly afterwards, insisting the body would continue to co-operate with authorities.

"The NRL is treating this as a serious matter and will take any action necessary to protect the integrity of the game," a spokesman said.

Already rocked by the Parramatta Eels' salary cap controversy last month, this is not the first time the NRL has been embroiled in a match-fixing scandal.

Ryan Tandy, who died in 2014, was found guilty in 2011 of a plan to manipulate the first scoring point of a game in August 2010 between the Canterbury Bulldogs and North Queensland Cowboys.
