NRL: Ex-player Orford in hospital after brain surgery

Orford was rushed to Royal North Shore hospital on Sunday after he was found on the bathroom floor after collapsing due to a seizure.

The 38-year-old, who captained the Sea Eagles to victory in the 2008 Grand Final victory over former team Melbourne Storm while he was crowned Dally M Medallist the same year, had remained in Mater hospital following complications from hip surgery last week.

"Matt is in good hands with the medical staff at Royal North Shore," Orford's father, Allan, said today via the Sea Eagles on Monday.

"Naturally, his mother and his family are devastated with what has happened.

"We like to thank the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Club and the rugby league community who have offered their love and support during this difficult time."

Storm also took to social media to offer their support to Orford, who made over 100 appearances during his four years in Melbourne before departing for Manly in 2006.

"Sending our thoughts and best wishes to former Storm man Matt Orford and his family. Stay strong #purplepride," the team tweeted.
