Owen Williams' Six Nations hopes with Wales ended

Leicester Tigers fly-half Owen Williams has undergone surgery on a fractured jaw in a blow to his chances of representing Wales at the Six Nations.

The uncapped 23-year-old was a contender for a spot in Warren Gatland's squad having scored 42 points in seven Premiership appearances this season.

Williams scored a try and three conversions in Leicester's 30-27 victory over Northampton Saints at the weekend but was helped off the pitch following a collision with Courtney Lawes in the first half.

The club have confirmed to Omnisport that Williams sustained a double fracture to his jaw and had an operation which is expected to rule him out of action for eight weeks.

With Wales' Six Nations campaign beginning away to Ireland on February 7, the 23-year-old is unlikely to recover in time to make a first international appearance at the competition.
