Pakistan spinner Yasir Shah appeals against doping ban

Pakistan spinner Yasir Shah has chosen to appeal against the provisional suspension imposed on him after he tested positive for a banned substance.

Yasir was sanctioned by the ICC in December, having produced a sample for an in-competition test that was found to contain the presence of prohibited substance chlortalidone.

Shaharyar Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), was subsequently quoted as saying Yasir's failed doping test came as a result of the bowler mistakenly taking his wife's blood-pressure medication.

And the PCB confirmed on Sunday that it has informed the ICC, world cricket's governing body, of Yasir's intention to appeal.

It remains to be seen whether Yasir will be cleared to feature in the World Twenty20, which begins in India in March.

The leg-spinner has proven particularly effective in Tests for Pakistan, claiming 76 wickets in 12 appearances at an average of 24.
