Pro12: Weir, Dunbar guide Warriors past Dragons

Glasgow Warriors climbed to fifth after overcoming Newport Gwent Dragons 18-15 away from home in the Pro12 on Thursday.

Tries in the second half from Alex Dunbar and Duncan Weir, who also kicked eight points, proved enough for Gregor Townsend's men, thanks in no small part to the hosts' inaccuracy, as Dragons' two penalty misses after the break proved costly.

The teams traded penalties in a try-less first half at Rodney Parade, where the visitors' Greg Peterson was shown a yellow card 14 minutes in for obstruction.

Dragons capitalised on their man advantage to go in 12-6 up at the break, fly-half Angus O'Brien kicking all of the Welsh region's four penalty attempts in the opening term.

Weir sent over two to keep the reigning champions in touch but missed a drop goal attempt with the last action of the first half.

Warriors made a strong start to the second period and were quickly rewarded, as Weir kicked for touch from a penalty to earn a line-out on the Dragons' 22.

A drive toward the line ended in the pace of centre Dunbar exploiting the space in the hosts' backline to score, Weir converting to make it 13-12 in the away team's favour.

Dragons regained the lead in the 48th minute through the boot of O'Brien, who missed another attempt five minutes later that could have afforded the hosts valuable breathing space.

Full-back Carl Meyer was the next man to miss a penalty for Dragons in the 66th minute and they were made to pay six minutes later, when Weir touched down and survived a review over a possible forward pass to see the try awarded.

The fly-half missed the conversion attempt but the visitors proved equal to the task of holding out during a tense climax.
