The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) plans to replicate the social housing project piloted in Tamale a year ago in other parts of the country.
The government has also promised to construct 21,000 affordable housing units throughout the country.
The sector Minister, Mr Julius Debrah, made this known in Tamale at the start of his inspection tour of projects in the Northern region as a build-up to the National Sanitation Day to be held in Tamale next Saturday.
Ghana currently has a social housing problem with a deficit of 1.8 million units.
Mr Debrah said he was in the region to also interact with the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) on ways to improve decentralisation in the government’s quest to improve local governance and also bring governance to the doorstep of the people.
