The Colombian striker was signed last summer onloan from French club, Monaco but could not hold down a regular place at Old Traford.

The former Atletico Madrid striker scored just four goals in 29 appearances during his torrid time at Manchester United.

After Manchester United goalless draw at Hull City, coach Van Gaal confirmed the striker will be returning to Monaco.

"Falcao is a top professional and a good human being. On behalf of everyone at Manchester United, I would like to wish him well for the future,' Van Gaal said.

Falcao, the website reports believes he would be better next season if given a full pre-season to work on his fitness.

He is also reportedly ready to take a pay cut to seal a move.

Falcao will now join up with his national team squad to prepare for this summer's Copa America.

Manchester United have also told defenders Rafael and Jonny Evans that they are available for transfer this summer while winger Nani and goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard have been told they don't have a future at the club.
