Rafael Nadal refused from restaurant in Rio

The Spaniard, defeated by Juan Martin Del Potro in the semi-finals on Saturday, missed out on a place on the podium when he was beaten 6-2 6-7 (1-7) 6-3 by Japan's Kei Nishikori in the bronze medal final.

Defeat meant Nadal failed to add to the gold he had already won in the men's doubles alongside Marc Lopez.

And Chris Hoy, Great Britain's six-time Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist, tweeted to say that he had spotted Nadal being turned away from a restaurant in Rio.

Hoy also cheekily suggested that fellow Scot Andy Murray, who had just defeated Del Potro to retain his Olympic title, would have no such trouble.

"The Chinese restaurant we're in has just turned away Rafa Nadal. Do you reckon Andy will get a table if he turns up?," Hoy posted.
