Notable among the guests were Integration Minister Aydan Özoğuz,the Coordination Council of Muslims in Germany (KRM) representative, Nurhan Soykan, the President of Central Council of Jews in Germany (ZJD), Josef Schuster, and a host of others.
According to Merkel, “Hatred, racism, and extremism have no place in this country. We are a country based on democracy, tolerance, and openness to the world.”
Adding that she disapproves of any form of violence against Muslims.
Steffen Seibert, the spokesperson for the German government said “The Iftar dinner will become an annual event for the German Chancellor.”
The German Chancellor also advised the Muslims to use the fasting period to examine their lives.
Germany is reported to be home to over 4million Muslims.
