Djokovic: Best two sets I've played against Federer

World number one Novak Djokovic revelled in his "flawless" first two sets against rival Roger Federer after he clinched yet another Australian Open final berth.

Djokovic was devastating early on Thursday, racing to a two-sets-to-love lead before seeing off third seed Federer 6-1 6-2 3-6 6-3 on Rod Laver Arena on Thursday.

The five-time Australian Open winner and defending champion left the crowd in awe as he closed out the opening set in just 22 minutes, before the second was wrapped up in a little more than half an hour.

And after moving ahead of Federer 23-22 in their head-to-head record, Djokovic told reporters: "I've had matches where I've played similar tennis. But I think against Roger, these first two sets have been probably the best two sets I've played against him overall I think throughout my career.

"I've had some moments against him in sets where I've played on a high level, but this was, I think, a different level than from before.

"I'm just very, very pleased that I was able to perform the way I did from the very beginning until the end."

Djokovic, who will face either Andy Murray or Milos Raonic in Sunday's final, added: "It's not always possible to play this way. You strive to be the best you can be. When you're playing one of your top rivals, somebody of Roger's resume, of course it requires a lot of focus, determination, and a different preparation for that matchup than most of the other matches.

"So that's why I came out with I think a great deal of self-belief and confidence and intensity, concentration. I played flawless tennis for the first two sets, no doubt about it."
