Rio 2016: Inbee Park wins women's golf gold medal
Inbee Park was a cut above the field as she won Olympic gold by five strokes on Saturday, becoming the first woman to win a golf competition at the Games in 116 years.
World number five Park has dominated at Rio 2016 and there was no letting up as she completed a convincing victory.
Even a change of schedule and shotgun start brought on by the threat of thunderstorms could not blow Park off course as she combined seven birdies with two bogeys to end the competition on 16 under.
Lydia Ko made birdie at the last to snatch the silver medal away from Feng Shanshan.
Starting the day with a two-shot advantage, Park had picked up four shots by the turn, with playing partners Ko (level par) and Gerina Piller (one over) unable to keep pace in the same stretch.
Feng picked up four shots in the space of five holes around the turn to move to 11 under, but she ran out of steam in pursuit of Park.
Ko bogeyed her 11th to fall to eight under - three shots off Feng in the silver medal position, but the Chinese could not hold off a late charge from the world number one, who birdied three of the last five to sneak into second.
It was all immaterial to Park, who finished solidly to seal South Korea's 10th gold medal of the Games.
"Being able to be standing here, representing South Korea is very special," Park said on Golf Channel after her final round. "It's a huge honour and I guess it could be the highlight of my career."
Harukyo Nomura shot six under to finish fourth, just a shot shy of Feng, while Maria Verchenova caught the eye with the lowest score of the tournament.
The Russian sunk a hole-in-one at the fourth on her way to a nine-under par 62, enough to end the tournament on four under after an underwhelming first three rounds.
