Ezekiel Kemboi has shelved his retirement plans after being disqualified in the 3,000 metre steeplechase final at Rio 2016.

The Kenyan athlete had announced plans to retire after finishing third in the Olympic final behind compatriot Conseslus Kipruto - who set a new Olympic record to win gold - and American Evan Jager.

However, the 34-year-old was subsequently disqualified by race officials after stepping off the track during Wednesday's final, which promoted France's Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad to the bronze medal position.

As a result Kemboi - who won steeplechase gold in 2004 and 2012 and is a four-time world champion - has reversed his decision and will compete at the 2017 World Championships in London.

"I had opted to retire right after the Olympics only if I had come home with this medal," he posted on Facebook.

"Now I feel that I have to bring back this medal not by protesting again but right on the track.

"Kemboi is not retired I will be coming to London 2017 to reclaim my medal from France. No limits."
