British Athletics has confirmed that an error made by Matthew Hudson-Smith when receiving the baton resulted in Team GB's disqualification from the 4x400 metre relay.

Great Britain's team of Nigel Levine, Delano Williams, Hudson-Smith and Martyn Rooney comfortably won their heat on Friday, but were disqualified for what the IAAF only described as "taking the baton out of an exchange zone" in their report.

The British time of two minutes 58.88 seconds was the third fastest, but it counts for nothing.
