There is no more iconic view in Rio than the statue, looking down on the harbour from the peak of the Corcovado mountain.
It is a sight that could leave someone at a loss for words, as United States equestrian rider Montgomery apparently was, referring to the statue as "the big Jesus" following his first day of competition.
Asked about the team dynamic among the American riders, the 35-year-old Texan - who has lived in England since 2012 - praised the group's camaraderie.
"We've all known each other for years," he said. "Since we got here, we've gone out to the beach, the big Jesus or whatever you call it, all that good stuff."
