Cardiff Blues head coach Danny Wilson has revealed Wales captain Sam Warburton and back Gareth Anscombe could return from injury in the European Rugby Challenge Cup clash at Harlequins on Sunday.

Back-row Warburton has been sidelined since November after suffering an ankle injury in a Pro12 defeat at Ospreys.

Anscombe sustained ankle ligament damage during the Rugby World Cup quarter-final defeat against South Africa and has not played since.

The duo are now closing in on a timely return just a few weeks before Wales start their Six Nations campaign with a trip to defending champions Ireland.

"Both Sam and Gareth are making good progress," said Wilson.

"It will probably be the latter stages of this week that we will make the decision on both players and Sam is more likely to play the Calvisano game [on January 22].

"Both players are making the right strides and I think in the next two weeks we will see both of them on the field."
