A Tanzanian football fan reportedly lost his wife in a bet over that countrys biggest derby between Dar es Salaam giants Simba SC and Young Africans SC.
The incredible bet was revealed on social media this week by the BBC’s Osasu Obayiuwana. The clash between the two bitterest rivalry clubs in the Tanzanian league ended with Simba losing 2-1 against Yanga .
The wager specified that the winner would get to spend the night with the loser’s spouse. Simba lost the match played last weekend by 2-1 which meant the Young Africans fan was due a second wife after winning the insane bet.
The rival fans formalised their bet in the form a contract written in Swahili, promising that whoever lost the match would give their wife to the winner.
But it is believed that the pair eventually reached a financial agreement instead.
Nevertheless, the Simba general secretary confirmed that fans of both teams often lose their wives in bets.
He also offered the BBC World Football podcast an insight into his passion for the club, and its history.
