Sam Burgess revels in memorable Rabbitohs return

Sam Burgess was understandably delighted after South Sydney Rabbitohs trounced Sydney Roosters 42-10 on his much-anticipated return to the NRL.

Following a switch to rugby union with Bath that ended on a sour note following England's elimination from the World Cup on home soil, Burgess was back in a Rabbitohs shirt on Sunday for a first NRL outing since he memorably led the team to Grand Final glory in October 2014.

The Bunnies marked his comeback in style, running up 26 unanswered points in the first half on their way to an emphatic win that was somewhat marred by injuries to Adam Reynolds and John Sutton after the interval.

Reflecting on his second South Sydney debut, Burgess told the club's official website: "It's a day I'll probably remember for a long time.

"It was good to be back. I thought we were very clinical as a team and deserved the win.

"Defensively, [there were] some good efforts - in the last few minutes Greg [Inglis] and Damien Cook managed to save a try in the far corner when we were winning by 30 points - that's a fair testament to the team.

"We've worked hard and really knuckled down over the last two or three months together."

Reynolds suffered a suspected broken jaw and is set to undergo a scan together with Sutton, who left the field in the closing minutes clutching his left pectoral muscle.
