Yasir Shah suspended by ICC over doping violation

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has provisionally suspended Pakistan's Yasir Shah after being charged with a doping violation.

Leg-spinner Yasir was found to have given a positive sample from a test carried out last month, and has consequently been banned by the ICC.

"The sample Yasir provided in an in-competition test, which was conducted on 13 November 2015, was found to contain the presence of chlortalidone, a Prohibited Substance which appears in Section 5 of the WADA Prohibited List (in the category of Specified Substances)," an ICC statement read.

"In accordance with the ICC Anti-Doping Code, pending the outcome of the disciplinary process, Yasir has been provisionally suspended.

"The matter will now be dealt with in accordance with the process set down in the Code, and until such time as the process is resolved, the ICC will make no further comment on this matter."

Yasir, who made his Test debut against Australia in October last year, has taken 76 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 24.17, but appears a major doubt for Pakistan's limited-overs tour to New Zealand in January, while the ICC World Twenty20 is set to get under way in March.
