South Africa's Dale Steyn out of second Test
South Africa will be without Dale Steyn as they look to square their series with England in the second Test at Newlands, which begins on Saturday.
The fast bowler - who missed the majority of the recent 3-0 series defeat in India with a groin injury - returned to fitness in time for the opening Test in Durban, but was forced from the field in England's second innings with a shoulder problem.
After falling to a 241-run defeat at Kingsmead, South Africa were hopeful of having Steyn back in time for the second Test, but the short turnaround of two days between matches has proved insufficient.
Proteas captain Hashim Amla confirmed in a news conference on Friday that Steyn would miss out, with Kagiso Rabada set to deputise in the pace attack.
"Dale will miss the next Test, and Kyle [Abbott] is pending a fitness test to see if he's good to go," Amla said.
"Without Dale, Kagiso Rabada will come in. If Kyle is not fit we have to make a decision between Hardus Viljoen and Chris Morris, those are our two options."
South Africa also need to decide on who will keep wicket, with Quinton de Kock added to the squad to potentially take the gloves and leave star man AB de Villiers to concentrate on his batting.
"The final call will be made by the selectors," Amla added. "If Quinny does come in he will take a load off AB and he has also been in very good form with the bat.
"If he does play, the selectors will have to decide who they will leave out. It will be a tough decision, whether it is Faf [du Plessis] or JP [Duminy]Â because these have been integral guys in our team for many years."
