Sri Lanka: Mathews rues lack of consistency

Sri Lanka's struggle for consistency continued in the final game of their tour as England wrapped up an eight-wicket win in the sole Twenty20 on Tuesday.

The tourists have failed to win a single game against England across all three formats since arriving in early May, and were let down by poor batting decisions and mistakes in the field in Southampton.

Captain Angelo Mathews - who was dismissed playing a poor shot and then dropped Eoin Morgan - could not hide his disappointment at a tough tour.

"We showed fight in bits and pieces, but we were not consistent enough," he told Sky Sports.

"That is something we need to work really hard on."

Having battled to 140 all out, Sri Lanka could not contain Jos Buttler and Morgan as their 114-run partnership sealed the win.

Mathews added: "I don't think 140 was average on that wicket, it was stopping and turning a little, but it was not enough.

"I thought we looked for too many runs too early, we went for big shots and we kept losing wickets.

"We had to take wickets, we got a couple of wickets early but Eoin's catch was pretty crucial and I dropped it. It could have made the difference and we just couldn't get wickets."
